The success of the American TV network CBS, the series The Big Bang Theory fascinates the fans with a mixture of humor, geek culture and theoretical physics. What few know is that alongside all the writers of the series is the scientist David Saltzberg, who reviews and corrects all the theoretical errors in the lines of the characters, so that fans enjoy and have a 100% true content.

The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory is an American series that tells the story of prodigious scientists from the California Institute of Technology (CalTech). Leonard is an experimental physicist, while Sheldon is a theoretical physicist. In addition to working together, they also share the same apartment.

So far so good, however Penny, a pretty girl, who otherwise is not smart, moves to the apartment next door. That’s where the whole plot begins, where Leonard believes he can learn to interact with women, while Sheldon believes it’s impossible and prefers to spend his days playing with friends and co-workers Howard Wolowitz and Rajesh Koothrappali.

And where does physics get in?

In addition to the series portraying the lives of young physicists, the plot always ends up addressing discussions about physics theories. That is where David Saltzberg, a renowned physicist who has worked at CERN and teaches Physics and Astronomy at the University of California, enters. In The Big Bang Theory, David is responsible for the science of the series working as a scientific advisor.

The scripts of each episode pass through the hands of the physicist, who reviews and corrects the errors that may appear in the lines of the characters. Sometimes he also chooses the theme that will be approached in the episodes, and has already stated in an interview with Revista Superinteressante that he prefers elementary physics topics. This is because so most of the audience can learn a new theme as well.

In addition to the scripts, David Saltzberg also visits the set of footage. He is the one who chooses the equations that will be written on Sheldon’s chart, for example. Often they are related to the topics covered in the episode. Interesting, right?
